BAGHDAD, June 2 (UPI) -- Iraq and Yemen will use joint intelligence resources to fight al-Qaida, officials said.
The agreement is the first of its kind between the two countries in regards to terrorism, Maj. Gen. Ihasan al-Musaw, who heads Iraq's foreign relations, said Saturday in an interview with al-Shorfa newspaper.
"Joint committees from both countries will be responsible for implementing the security agreement in the next few days," he said.
Both Yemen and Iraq intelligence agencies will work in partnership to eradicate the threat posed by extremism in the region.
Al-Shorfa said Iraq is already working with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Libya in a similar manner.
"Arab leaders decided to present a united front against terrorism, thereby planting the seed for a regional and international center operating within the United Nations to combat al-Qaida and all radical ideologies that sanction killing and destruction," al-Musaw said.
