KARACHI, Pakistan, May 30 (UPI) -- A Pakistani neurosurgeon kidnapped 20 days ago was killed by his abductors Wednesday before authorities had a chance to free him, Karachi police said.
Ahmed Chinoy, the head of the Citizens Police Liaison Committee, told GEO News that Dr. Aftab Qureshi died before a police convoy reached the house where he was being held.

An exchange of gunfire between police and Dr. Qureshi's abductors resulted in the death of a policeman and one of the kidnappers.
Police took two people into custody, one of them a woman.
Dr. Qureshi was head of the neurosurgery department at Liaquat University in Pakistan.
The kidnappers sought $215,000 from his family in exchange for his release.
