SANAA, Yemen, May 29 (UPI) -- Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindawa called on Iraq to extradite all Yemeni nationals imprisoned in Iraq since 2004, officials said.
Saba news said Tuesday Basindawa urged Iraqi Ambassador Assad al-Samraee to deal with the matter of Yemeni prisoners and fast track their extradition to Yemen.
The Yemen Post said the premier stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Yemen and Iraq to prop up mutual interests and forge a stronger alliance.
Saba news said al-Samraee assured Basindawa that Baghdad will fulfill Yemen's request.
Official reports from the human rights ministry say about 20 Yemenis have been sitting in jail in Iraq for the past decade having been sentenced under the Iraqi emergency law.
The Yemen Post said Tuesday Yemen's rights group Hood expressed its concerns over detainees in Iraq, warning against possible "swift executions".
