Al-Qaida leaders escape drone attack

SANAA, Yemen, May 28 (UPI) -- Senior al-Qaida leaders escaped a drone attack aimed at one of their strongholds in Yemen that killed three militants, officials said Monday.

A U.S. done attacked a house in Rada -- a city in Baydha province south of the capital Sanaa -- that Yemeni intelligence services identified as a target Monday.

News Yemen online said Monday, quoting military sources, "They escaped the airstrike which killed three al-Qaida militants."

The Yemen Post said Monday that the Yemeni armed forces were slowly advancing against al-Qaida's positions in the southern province of Abyan.

Military officers told al-Masdar online Monday that the army "would soon cleanse Abyan from al-Qaida, freeing Jaar and Zinjibar," two cities under the control of the terror group since 2011.
