Yemen to crack down on al-Houthis

SANAA, Yemen, May 25 (UPI) -- Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirby warned there would be a crackdown on the al-Houthi movement and accused Iran of meddling by supporting the rebels.

Qirby told al-Watan newspaper Wednesday Iran was playing a dangerous game in Yemen by supporting the al-Houthis, Shiite rebels.

Yemen, from 2005-2009, fought a bloody war against al-Houthis.

"Even though we urged Iran many times not to meddle in our affairs, Iran continues to support terrorism, to foment chaos, and to ignite and fund conflicts in Yemen," the foreign minister said.

The Yemen post said Qirby declared that although he was keen to settle the al-Houthis' grievances through diplomacy the government would not suffer any more unrest connected to the rebels.
