Shafaq said the council member was meeting with a group of local residents in the pharmacy at Ghormach when the explosion occurred.

"The initial information we have says that either a suicide bomber or a blast has killed seven civilians and wounded eight others," Shafaq told the Post by telephone.

Shafaq said he was basing his account on radio communications from the isolated area. He did not have information about a possible target or motive for the explosion, which an Interior Ministry official confirmed

No group claimed responsibility.
