Afghan soldier killed by roadside bomb

KABUL, Afghanistan, May 12 (UPI) -- An Afghan soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in southern Helmand province, Defense Ministry official said Saturday.

Officials released a statement Saturday announcing the Friday blast and a separate incident in southern Kandahar province that injured another soldier, Khaama Press reported.

Defense officials also said Afghan national army soldiers seized a cache of weapons and explosives during raids in Ghazni, Paktika and southern Helmand provinces.

At least three militants were killed in recent operations by Afghan and coalition forces in Kabul, Helmand, Zabul and Paktika provinces, the Interior Ministry said.
