LIMA, May 10 (UPI) -- A pilot who made a safe emergency landing of a helicopter carrying 18 Peruvian military officers Thursday died afterward, officials said.
The emergency landing occurred while observing a suspected drug deal along the Tambo River in a jungle area, Andina reported.

Police said the aircraft, which left its base in Peru's Mazamari district, did not go down because of a narco-terrorist attack.
"We ruled [out] that it was an attack, since none of the 18 policemen have gunshot wounds," the official said, adding that the matter was being investigated.
Andina did not report on a possible cause of death for the pilot.
