Lebanon: Weapons hidden in ship's cargo

BEIRUT, Lebanon, May 8 (UPI) -- The Lebanese military has seized weapons that were hidden in cargo on a ship carrying used car parts in port at Tripoli, security officials said.

Security forces said the weapons, which included assault rifles, were discovered Monday inside one of the vehicles aboard the vessel, The (Beirut) Daily Star reported Tuesday.

The ship's origin and destination ports were not known.

The seizure came a week after the Lebanese army intercepted a ship carrying weapons reportedly bound for Syria.
