SEOUL, May 3 (UPI) -- South Korea asked world powers Thursday for more effective implementation of U.N. sanctions against North Korea, following China's block of some 37 sanctions.
Following the unsuccessful launch of a long-range rocket out of Pyongyang April 13, South Korea, the United States, Japan and the European Union drafted a list of 40 North Korean entities to be sanctioned by the U.N.
Yonhap news agency reported China, a North Korean ally who wields veto power, only approved three: Green Pine Conglomerate, Amroggang Development Banking Corp., and Korean Heungin Trading Company.
"Rather than the number, our main concern is how to proceed with an implementation of the additional sanctions," said South Korean Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Han Hye-jin. "We expect the sanctions against North Korea to be more effectively implemented with the new sanctions."
