CAIRO, May 3 (UPI) -- More than four out of 10 Egyptians say they have not decided whom to support in the upcoming presidential election, a poll released Thursday indicated.
The two leading candidates identified by the Information and Decision Support Center have 11 percent of the vote each, Ahram Online reported. They are Amr Moussa, a former secretary general of the Arab League, and Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The survey of 1,209 adults showed 16 percent are not sure they will vote, the Middle East News Agency reported.
MENA said younger voters, including university and graduate students, and those with middle or high incomes are more likely to support Aboul Fotouh. Nine out of 10 supported the revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarak last year, 20 percent back the Muslim Brotherhood and 17 percent, the strict Muslim Salafists.
Older, poorer and less educated voters are more likely to support Moussa. His supporters also overwhelmingly back the revolution while 6 percent support the brotherhood and 27 percent the Salafists.
Moussa was the leading candidate with women and Aboul Fotouh with men.
Voting is scheduled for May 23-24. Twelve candidates have been qualified to run. A runoff will be held in the likely event that no candidate wins at least 50 percent of the vote.
