TEL AVIV, Israel, April 23 (UPI) -- Israeli commandos boarded a cargo ship in the Mediterranean Sea, suspecting it was on a weapons-smuggling run to Gaza, the army said.

No weapons were found, officials said.

Commandos of the navy's Flotilla 13 unit boarded the HS Beethoven about 160 nautical miles (184 miles) west of Israel, Channel Two television said.

The troops received permission from the ship's captain to board the vessel and did not encounter any resistance, the television report said.

The ship was flying a Liberian flag.

The army described the raid as routine and said suspicions had arisen because of the ship's route.

The Beethoven had docked in Limassol, Cyprus, and left Beirut in Lebanon Friday. It was scheduled to dock in Alexandria, Egypt, Monday night, the report said.

In March 2011, navy commandos in the Mediterranean intercepted the Victoria, a cargo ship flying a Liberian flag and heading for Alexandria. Troops seized about 50 tons of weapons on the ship, including Iranian-made, anti-ship missiles, which Israeli intelligence officials said were designated for terror groups in Gaza.
