ISTANBUL, Turkey, April 23 (UPI) -- Fire spread through an industrial district of Istanbul, Turkey, Monday, damaging more than 60 businesses, authorities said. No serious injuries were reported.
The fire began in an upper floor of a textile factory where paint thinner was stored and quickly spread to adjoining buildings in the Zeytinburnu Cirpici neighborhood of the Bakirkoy district, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Smoke could be seen from all over Istanbul, the Today's Zaman newspaper reported.
Several people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation,Today's Zaman said.
Istanbul Gov. Huseyin Avni Mutlu said more than 80 firefighting teams were sent to the scene. He said fabric and chemicals stored in some of the buildings made firefighting efforts difficult.
