Activists: Bahrain gov't forces killed man

MANAMA, Bahrain, April 21 (UPI) -- Opposition activists in Bahrain say a man whose body was found with gunshot wounds near the capital of Manama was killed by government security forces.

An opposition group said the man's body was found in the Shiite village of Shakhoura, the BBC reported.

The death of the man, in his 30s, came as protesters and police clashed Friday night ahead of Sunday's Formula One Grand Prix.

Several people were hit by birdshot, Nabeel Rajab of the Center for Human Rights told the BBC.

The BBC said armored vehicles were patrolling the streets in Manama before the race, for which practice and qualifying sessions have begun.

Meanwhile, Rajab said, the daughter of human rights activist Abdul al-Khawaja, who has been on hunger strike for 70 days, had been detained briefly when she tried to visit him in the hospital. She wasn't allowed to see her father.
