The other two girls had been sold for $1,300 each, police said.

Police said the women who were arrested would try to win the confidence of the victims before handing them over to men in the gang.

Police identified those arrested as Kalu, Premabai, Karan Singh, Raju, Shyamlal, Jagdish, Champalal and Draupdibai.

Upma Rai, the chairwoman of the the Madhya Pradesh Women's Commission, said the commission had asked for reports on all missing children from police stations in the state.
