Tymoshenko may go to Germany for treatment

KIEV, Ukraine, April 7 (UPI) -- Ukrainian officials are deciding where former Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, who is currently incarcerated, will receive health treatment.

Tymoshenko wishes to be treated in Germany for unspecified health concerns, ITAR-Tass reported.

First Deputy Prosecutor-General Renat Kuzmin said Saturday officials are talking with Germany about possible treatment of Timoshenko at a German clinic that specifically works with inmates.

"Yes, talks are in progress; the topic of Timoshenko's treatment is actively discussed with the German side," Kuzmin said.

However, Kuzmin said he has doubts about whether Tymoshenko really needs treatment.

"There is no data that Timoshenko really needs a surgical interference and that her state of health is so poor that she should be treated abroad," Kuzmin said.

Tymoshenko is currently serving a sentence at the Kachanovskaya prison for abusing powers while she was in office by signing a gas agreement with Russia in 2009.
