Two injured, 500 homeless in Filipino fire

MANILA, Philippines, March 28 (UPI) -- Two people were injured and some 500 families were left homeless Wednesday when fire swept through a settlement in the Philippines, fire officials said.

Senior Inspector Andres Daus Jr. of the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze began before noon local time at a home in Quezon City, the Philippines ABC-CBN News.com reported.

The blaze was declared under control less than an hour later but some hundreds of homes made of light material had been destroyed.

A 9-year-old girl suffered burns on her back and a 36-year-old woman was injured when she stepped on a shard of glass.

Police arrested four people for looting.
