Video emerges of Syrian atrocities

HOMS, Syria, March 15 (UPI) -- CNN says it has obtained video allegedly showing killings and atrocities committed by Syrian security forces in Homs neighborhoods opposing the government.

CNN said it stands behind the provenance of the footage displaying about a dozen family members slaughtered in one house -- the killings allegedly motivated by sectarian violence.

The video allegedly shows a group of nine men moving across rooftops in a crouch until they reach a hole in a wall which they crawl through to reach a house on a sectarian division line running through Homs, CNN said Thursday.

"We're rescuing the bodies of the martyrs," says a man's voice on the audio track of the video. The videographer and his team were following up on week-old information concerning the deaths of a Sunni family.

The team allegedly discovered a pile of bloody bodies, one of which slumped against a white wall spattered red with blood, CNN said.

"Let the world see. Look at this massacre in just one house," a man says and curses the Shiites, the Alawites and President Bashar Assad. Sunnis are the majority in Syria, a country governed by the minority Alawite, an offshoot branch of Shiite Islam.

"Oh, look, people, look," says one man, choked with emotion as he too curses the regime -- and the world.

A child emerges from a dark room where he was hiding allegedly for days after his family was killed by thugs connected to the government, CNN said.

There was no answer from the Syrian Foreign Ministry when CNN tried to get a statement, the network said.
