Islamic militants captured in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 8 (UPI) -- A joint Afghan-International Security Assistance Force operation Thursday captured two leaders of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, officials said.

One of the men, who were captured in the Faizabad district of Badakhshan province, was injured during the operation and received medical treatment, the ISAF said in a release.

The injured man was responsible for suicide bombings against senior Afghan officials in Badakshan and Kunduz provinces, while the other man was a bomb-making expert who also helped plan the attacks, the release said.

The operation also netted an additional suspected insurgent and a suicide vest, explosives, blasting caps and detonation cord.

A separate coalition operation in the south of the country captured a Taliban leader in Helmand province. Other Taliban facilitators were captured in additional operations.
