SEOUL, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A U.S. envoy said Saturday his talks with North Korean officials signaled a good start for resuming stalled nuclear disarmament negotiations.
Glyn Davies briefed South Korean officials in Seoul on his discussions in Beijing with Kim Kye Gwan, his North Korean counterpart, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The talks were "good beginning with the new government" in North Korea, Davis told reporters after meeting with South Korean nuclear envoy Kim Sung-nam.
The talks were the first contact between North Korea and the United States since the death of Kim Jong Il and his son, Kim Jong Un took over as the country's leader.
Talks on North Korea's nuclear program -- which involve the Koreas, the United States, China, Japan and Russia -- were suspended in late 2010.
