Turkey: NATO radar data not shared

ANKARA, Turkey, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Turkey says it will not share information from a NATO radar installation aimed at Iran with countries that do not belong to the alliance.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made the statement after a meeting Friday with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the secretary general of NATO, Voice of America reported. Turkish news media had reported that the United States allegedly shared information obtained from the radar installation with Israel, which does not belong to NATO.

Turkey "will never allow any third country to use any NATO facility," Davutoglu said. Rasmussen said all NATO installations are primarily intended to protect members.

Rasmussen was in Ankara to mark the 60th anniversary of Turkey's membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The two men also discussed Syria and an upcoming NATO summit on Afghanistan scheduled to be held in May in Chicago.
