Activists form 'revolutionary council'

CAIRO, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Egyptian political activists said they have formed a "revolutionary council" focused on achieving and realizing the 2011 revolution's goals and aspirations.

Mohamed Abou Hamed, Ziyad al-Elemy and Mostafa al-Gendy, three Parliament members, were named part of the council Thursday, bikyamasr.com reported.

The council said it will bring together different political entities in dialogue to bring back the principles of social justice that motivated the Egyptian uprising.

A statement issued by the council called the effort a "serious try to unify political powers that suffered lately from diversion."

The council also said it wishes to form fair public trials for former regime affiliates and bring to justice those responsible for the "massacres" that left hundreds of dead over the past year.
