Saudi firefight leaves at least 1 dead

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Saudi investigators are looking into a firefight between armed rioters and security forces that left at least one person dead, police said Friday.

The Kuwait News Agency reported masked gunmen allegedly attacked security forces guarding the eastern Saudi province of Qatif Thursday, a police spokesperson told the state-run Saudi press agency, SPA.

Four of the alleged assailants were injured in the shootout; one of them died from his injuries.

There have been multiple incidents of violence and riots with casualties in Saudi Arabia's eastern regions, the news agency said.

Saudi authorities said 23 people are wanted for crimes in connection with the events.
