Syrian TV text news service hacked

DAMASCUS, Syria, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Syrian television officials say they have suspended their breaking-news texting service because their computer system appears to have been hacked.

Addounia TV warned users to beware of false news alerts being sent out and blamed the hacking on nefarious characters bent on "spreading lies and fear."

The Syrian Arab News Agency said Sunday Addounia management downplayed the potential impact of the intrusion, saying Syrians were becoming more aware of efforts by Syria's enemies to spread misinformation.
