At least 3 dead in Indian rail collision

DISPUR, India, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- At least three people were killed when a local train hit a large piece of construction equipment in a rural area in northeastern India, officials said.

One of those who died in the crash Thursday at an unmanned level crossing in Assam was the driver of the earth-mover, Press Trust of India reported. The other two were passengers on the train.

The collision derailed several train cars. Fifty people were injured.

Nilmani Sen Deka, the state agricultural minister, visited the crash scene and the hospitals where the injured were being treated Friday.
