DUSSELDORF, Germany, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A man accused of assisting in six hate crime slayings in Germany and supplying weapons to a neo-Nazi terrorist group was arrested Wednesday, authorities said.
The suspect, identified only as Carsten S., 31, was taken into custody in Dusseldorf following a commando-style raid on his home by the German anti-terror unit GSG 9. He was formally accused of assisting the National Socialist Underground in six of 10 homicides the group allegedly committed between 2000 and 2007.
He was also accused of one count of attempted murder.
The neo-Nazi group has been connected to the killings of eight shopkeepers and staff of Turkish origin, as well as one from Greece, and one policewoman. The German Federal State Prosecutor's office said Wednesday Carsten S. had supplied money, weapons and ammunition to the organization after it went underground in 1998, the English-language German news Web site The Local reported.
