Canadian child porn sweep nets 60 men

TORONTO, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Sixty men, including a daycare worker, have been arrested on child pornography charges throughout Ontario this week, police announced Thursday.

At a news conference in Vaughan, north of Toronto, the Ontario Provincial Police said the suspects face a total of 213 charges related to photos and videos of child pornography shared on the Internet, the Toronto Star reported.

Apart from the daycare worker, three of the people arrested were minors and couldn't be identified, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said.

"This is one of the largest coordinated [police] efforts of its kind in Ontario," Detective-Sgt. Frank Goldschmidt told reporters. "We anticipate there will be several more charged."

He said 67 search warrants had been executed and investigators from 24 police departments had collected nearly 9,000 unique IP computer addresses where child pornography had possibly been downloaded, the Star said.

Goldschmidt said he was "gratified" to report 22 children in the pornography had been identified but wouldn't elaborate further, the CBC said.
