BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Monsoon rains have been filling rivers in Queensland in northeast Australia with 6 inches of rain falling in parts of the state.
On the other coast, residents were waiting Sunday for Tropical Cyclone Iggy. The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported the latest forecasts suggest Iggy will not make landfall but could bring heavy rain and high winds to parts of Western Australia.
Iggy formed at sea and is moving toward Mardie and Exmouth on the upper coast of the state, The Sunday Mail said.
David Hall, owner of Exmouth Diving Center, which was damaged by Cyclone Vance in 1999, said residents of the area are used to storms.
"You go to the shop there is not much milk or bread left," he said. "Everyone is stocking up on all the goods they need and they are just sort of hunkering down."
Wayne Preedy, acting northern director for Emergency Management Queensland, said some places could be cut off for a few days by river flooding. He said the tropical low that brought the rain is moving south into New South Wales.
