BEIJING, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- At least one person was killed when angry Tibetans clashed with police in western China after a man putting up posters was arrested, Tibetan exile groups say.

The International Campaign for Tibet and Free Tibet said the shooting occurred Thursday in Rangtang County, Sichuan province, The New York Times reported. Rangtang has a large Tibetan population.

Activists said police arrested a man who had posters hailing the recent deaths of people who have set themselves on fire to dramatize the Tibetan cause. Officers fired into a crowd that tried to prevent them from removing the man.

The exile groups say at least two people died in clashes Monday and Tuesday and another may have been killed Jan. 14.

A large demonstration was planned Friday in Rangtang, the International Campaign for Tibet said.
