U.K. ticket holder wins $63M jackpot

LONDON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A possible winner of a $63.1 million lottery prize has come forward in the United Kingdom, officials said.

If the U.K.-based EuroMillions ticket holder is confirmed the winner of Friday's jackpot, he or she would become the winner of the seventh-largest lottery jackpot in the United Kingdom, Sky News reported.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the lucky ticket holder to our millionaires' club, which is already over 2,800 strong," said a spokesman for Camelot, which operates the U.K. National Lottery.

"EuroMillions players in the U.K. continue to contribute to the massive [$41.9] billion raised for National Lottery Good Causes," he added. "This latest win continues the nation's amazing run of luck with big EuroMillions winners."

The record lottery win in the United Kingdom is held by Colin and Chris Weir from Scotland, who won $250.2 million in July, the BBC reported.

Three months later, $156 million was claimed by Dave and Angela Dawes from Cambridgeshire.
