Girl bitten by coyote in Toronto area

OAKVILLE, Ontario, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- An 8-year-old girl in a Toronto suburb was bitten by a coyote Thursday, and residents were urged to be cautious.

The attack occurred in Oakville. The girl was walking on a pathway behind Cannonridge Circle when she was bitten. The Toronto Globe and Mail reported she was not seriously injured, but police said the coyote chased her home.

The coyote was located on the pathway and shot after a hunt by local police, animal control workers and Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources officers. Police reported more than one set of paw prints was discovered, and are suggesting that walkers in the area be watchful.
