Six injured in demolition protest

MITZPEH JERICHO, West Bank, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Six people were injured during clashes between protesters and police officers at the demolition site of an illegal outpost near a West Bank settlement.

The demolition crew, escorted by security forces, arrived at the Yisa Bracha outpost near Mitzpeh Jericho early Thursday to dismantle six houses, Haaretz reported.

Protesters began throwing rocks at the security forces, who responded by firing tear gas and using batons in attempts to disperse the crowd.

Three protesters sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

Three police officers were injured when a roof of a building they climbed onto collapsed. They were attempting to evacuate a protester who was barricaded inside the building.
