Prosecutors seek Park ex-aides' records

SEOUL, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Prosecutors investigating alleged bribery searched e-mail and bank accounts of ex-aides of South Korea National Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae, officials said.

The prosecutors were scrutinizing the personal bank accounts of Park's former aide, surnamed Cho, who primarily handled the funds for Park's 2008 campaign to become chairman of the ruling Grand National Party, as well as other accounts used by Park's camp, Yonhap News Agency reported.

E-mail accounts of those who handled funds for Park's camp were being examined in an effort to determine the source of bribes allegedly made to GNP lawmakers before the party election.

Yonhap said the investigation followed GNP lawmaker Koh Seung-duk's allegation Park gave monetary gifts to GNP lawmakers to win support for his bid.

Koh claimed an envelope containing $2,600 and Park's business card had been delivered to his office just before the party had the election. Koh said the money was returned to Park's office.
