Two Turkish men shot near Iran border

VAN, Turkey, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Iranian soldiers shot and wounded two Turkish villagers who allegedly entered Iran illegally to try to smuggle fuel, local media reported.

The daily Radikal reported on its Web site that Mustafa Ozkaplan and his cousin, Murat Ozkaplan, had crossed into Iran before dawn Monday morning to smuggle fuel back into Turkey, the Hurriyet Daily News said.

The soldiers fired on the villagers near the border.

The two men taken by ambulance to a hospital in Van, where Mustafa Ozkaplan was reportedly in critical condition

The shootings were under investigation, the Turkish newspaper said.
