Slain student's parents visit crime scene

MANCHESTER, England, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The parents of an Indian student laid flowers Friday at the place where he was gunned down in Manchester, England.

Subhash and Yogini Bidve brought a bottle of water from the Ganges River to place at a makeshift shrine to their son, The Guardian reported. They traveled to England to bring Anuj Bidve's body home to Pune.

Anuj, 23, a graduate student at Lancaster University, was shot in the early morning hours of Dec. 26. He was spending the Christmas break in Manchester with friends and the group was headed to the city center for post-Christmas sales.

Kiaran Stapleton, 20, has been charged with his murder.

"The world is finished for us -- that is all I can say," Subhash Bidve said.

Bidve and his wife wept as they viewed their son's picture, flanked by candles and flowers, in the Salford neighborhood. The couple were accompanied by Anuj's brother-in-law, Rakesh Sonawane, who has been serving as a family spokesman.
