CAIRO, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- An Egyptian youth activist group publicly accused police officers Wednesday of torturing four members after their arrests.
The April 6 Youth Movement's Democratic Front alleged that officers from the Old Cairo police detained members for circulating posters critical of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on Tuesday, and later assaulted them.
Amr Ezz, who organized the demonstration, tells al-Masry al-Youm that the posters compared pictures of troops beating women in Cairo during protests last month with heroic images of troops after the 1973 war with Israel.
Since the SCAF assumed power in February, the April 6 Youth Movement has been highly critical of its rule. The SCAF accused the group of treason in July for demonstrating at its headquarters.
The group has issued a statement saying that four activists from the group were brutally beaten and insulted, and forced to sign fabricated testimonies. The group's leader, Tarek al-Khouly, has threatened to organize an open sit-in outside the office of the Egyptian attorney general if the activists are not released.
