BAGHDAD, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Three U.S. contractors who were arrested while escorting a convoy in Iraq have been released, a member of Congress says.
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said the three had been held in an Iraqi military compound since their detention Dec. 9. He said they were in Baghdad in "American hands" Tuesday, the New York Daily News reported.
King said the detention of Alex Antiohos of New York, Jonas March of Savannah, Ga., and Kevin Fisher of Fiji appeared to be the result of in-fighting in the Iraqi government.
"They had legal papers, given by the Interior Ministry, and they were stopped by Defense Ministry people who said the paperwork was invalid," King said. "There was some internal fight within factions in Iraq, and they were pawns."
King became involved in the case at the request of the wife of Antiohos, a former Green Beret who lives in King's Long Island district.
