PETER CAVE, Australia, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- An inquest into the 1980 death of an infant near Uluru in Australia's Northern Territory, possibly caused by a dingo, is being reopened, officials said.
A legal team hired by the parents of Azaria Chamberlain are trying to convince the coroner to overturn the official record that shows the cause of death as unknown. Michael Chamberlain and his former wife Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, say they're convinced their daughter was killed by a dingo, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday.
Northern Territory coroner Elizabeth Morris said the inquest will begin in February.
Azaria was 9-weeks-old when she disappeared in August 1980. Chamberlain-Creighton, who said she had seen a dingo near the tent just before her daughter disappeared, was convicted of murder in 1982. Michael Chamberlain was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact.
The parents were exonerated in 1987.
