Egyptian protesters claim deliberate food poisoning

CAIRO, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Occupy Cabinet protesters in Cairo say food poisoning that sent some 40 protesters to the hospital was a deliberate act.

Online newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm said a woman wearing a face veil was observed handing out free meat sandwiches Wednesday afternoon to protesters camped out in front of Egypt's Cabinet in downtown Cairo.

The April 6 Youth Movement said the activists became ill later that day. The group posted a statement on Facebook saying the food poisoning is part of an ongoing effort to eliminate dissent in Egypt.

"Who are the 'invisible hands' who will be held responsible this time, and for how long will these 'invisible hands' continue threatening the security of Egypt and the young revolutionaries?" the statement said.
