Alberta shooting spree kills 2, hurts 2

CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- At least two people were killed and two others critically injured Thursday in an apparent shooting spree south of Calgary, Alberta, police said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said an emergency call was received around 3:30 a.m. about shootings on Highway 2 near Claresholm, some 65 miles south of Calgary.

Two victims were declared dead at the scene, and the other two in critical condition were taken by air and ground ambulance to Calgary Foothills Hospital, the Calgary Sun reported.

Claresholm Mayor David Moore told the Calgary Herald police told him there was a suspect in custody, but the RCMP wouldn't confirm that.

At a morning news conference, Sgt. Patrick Webb said the incident is being treated as a multiple homicide and that police have a "pretty good idea what happened," but it was too soon to release more details.

Webb also refused to answer whether gangs or organized crime was suspected in the shooting spree, the reports said.
