BANGKOK, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A criminal court in Thailand has sentenced a low-ranking former police officer to 38 years in prison for a March 2010 grenade attack on the Defense Ministry.
Former Lance Cpl. Bundit Sithithum, 44, is the first person to be convicted and imprisoned on terrorism charges in last year's Red-Shirt protests in Bangkok, the Bangkok Post reported Tuesday.
The court broke down his sentence into 20 years for terrorism, two years for using fake license plates, five years for illegally possessing rocket-propelled grenade launchers, five years for illegal possession of bombs, five years for illegally possessing machine guns and one year for carrying illicit weapons in public areas.
Bundit's lawyer said his client would seek bail and file an appeal within the 30-day limit.
He accused prosecutors of using two prostitutes as witnesses to frame his client.
