Somalia hit by deadly explosion

MOGADISHU, Somalia, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A car exploded while being searched in Somalia's capital Tuesday, killing at least five people, including two police officers, witnesses said.

The witnesses told the BBC police had stopped the car at the busy KM4 junction in Mogadishu.

It was reported smoke was seen rising from the city after the blast, which was followed by outbreaks of gunfire, the British network said.

Al-Shabaab fighters have staged several suicide attacks in Mogadishu in recent weeks, but the Islamist militant group had not issued a statement regarding Tuesday's bombing.

Meanwhile, two foreign workers kidnapped by al-Shabaab militants in Kenya two months ago have been relocated to southern Somalia, the Shabelle News Network reported.

Local residents told Shabelle the two women doctors working for MSF Spain were taken from Kenya's largest refugee camp. They have been moved to an unknown location in Afgoye, locals said.
