2nd bushfire in Western Australia

PERTH, Australia, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The second bushfire in Western Australia in two weeks to begin with a controlled burn was contained but not under control Saturday, officials said.

Residents of an area near the south coast were warned their homes could be in danger if the fire breaks through containment lines, The Australian reported. Those living in Molloy were asked to leave their homes, while three boats were ready to evacuate those in East Augusta.

The fire was in its 11th day and had spread over 166 square miles. Last week, two sheds were gutted and a house damaged.

Another fire, in the Margaret River area to the north, destroyed 41 houses last week in a popular tourist area. That blaze also began as a prescribed burn that got out of control.

About 100 firefighters aided by water bombers were working in high temperatures with gusty winds threatening to carry the fire over the containment lines.

"You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is still a threat to lives and homes," residents were warned.
