Women charged with dognapping

SURREY, British Columbia, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Two women who run a charitable pet-rescue group in western Canada are facing charges for allegedly stealing dogs, police say.

Janet Olson, 58, and Louise Reid, 59, of Surrey, British Columbia, who run A Better Life Dog Rescue, allegedly posed as animal welfare officers and stole a bulldog named Samson from his home Nov. 21, CBC News reported.

Olson is also facing theft charges for stealing another dog in April.

Surrey police said the incidents followed a wave of reported dog thefts in the Vancouver area that still are under investigation.
