Many Young Italians said unwilling to work

ROME, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Nearly 1 million young people in Italy have lost their jobs since 2007, many because they are unwilling to adapt to the changing workforce, a study says.

The 45th annual report on Italian society by the research group Censis points blame at the under 30 demographic, saying young people appear incapable or unwilling to adapt to the changes, Italy's ANSA news service reported Friday.

Censis said the percentage of people between the ages of 15 and 29 who choose to stay unemployed or fail to seek further training or education is much higher in Italy than in the rest of the European Union. About 16.7 percent of Italians 25-29 neither work nor study, compared to 8.5 percent in the rest of the EU.

The survey also suggests young Italians are also less inclined to move to another EU country for work, with fewer than 41 percent of those interviewed saying they considered that as an option.
