PARIS, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A former comrade of Carlos the Jackal described the man as a killer, rather than a revolutionary in a Paris court Friday.
"He calls himself a professional revolutionary," said Hans-Joachim Klein during testimony. "Transforming woman into mincemeat isn't revolutionary."
Carlos the Jackal -- real name Ilich Ramirez Sanchez of Venezuela -- is currently serving a life sentence for killing two French secret service agents and an alleged informant and faces trial for four bombings in France in the early 80s that killed 11 people, Radio France Internationale reported.
Klein was a member of the group that took OPEC oil ministers hostage in 1975 in Vienna under Ramirez's direction. Klein subsequently denounced political violence and went into hiding before being caught in 1998 and serving a five-year prison sentence.
On Friday, Klein testified Ramirez lied to the group when he told them it was to help the Palestinian cause.
"It was a contract for [late Libyan leader Moammar] Gadhafi, who wanted to control OPEC," Klein said.
"He had a policy of gratuitous massacre," Klein testified. "He thought that the more he killed, the more people respected him. He was quite capable of killing someone and going to a good restaurant without losing his appetite."
