KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- An Afghan suicide bombing killed three people, injured dozens and destroyed several government buildings outside a small American military base, officials said.
The Taliban, through spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, took credit for the Friday bombing, which injured at least 70 people, about 25 miles from Kabul in the Mohammad Agha District, Logar province, The New York Times reported.
The bomb was apparently carried by a truck.
A spokesman for the provincial governor and a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force confirmed the bombing but did not release more details.
A contractor who was working near the site of the explosion, said it seemed to have destroyed a district government building, the police headquarters, a health clinic and the regional office of the National Directorate of Security. The buildings were clustered near the gates of the military base.
The contractor said a police officer told him the bomb was in the trailer of a tractor-trailer rig that attempted to enter the base but was denied access.
Logar province has had an increase in Taliban activity in the past two years, the report said.
