Arroyo to be moved to govt hospital

MANILA, Philippines, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Former Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be moved to a government-run hospital, a Philippines court ordered.

Clerk of Court Joel Pelicano said Arroyo has five days to make the move to Veterans Memorial Medical Center from St. Luke's Medical Center, the Philippine Star reported Thursday.

"There is no justification for the continued stay of an accused in a private hospital, so the court has ordered her transfer to the VMMC, a government facility," Pelicano told reporters.

Pelicano said Arroyo will also be barred from using mobile phones or laptops while under hospital arrest to avoid the perception she is receiving special treatment.

Arroyo has been staying in a $1,200 a day hospital suite at St. Lukes for treatment of a series of medical issues since her Nov. 18 arrest on charges of electoral sabotage, the newspaper said.
