Abandoned newborn found in Canadian hotel

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Police in Winnipeg, Manitoba, were releasing few details Thursday about a newborn child found in a hotel casino stairwell a day earlier.

There were sketchy reports about who called police after 3 p.m. Wednesday to report "an infant child located unattended" in the stairwell of the Club Regent Casino Hotel, Global TV said quoting a police news release.

Some details suggest it appeared the child had been born where it was found. There was also an indication the person who made the 911 emergency call was the mother, the Canadian broadcaster said.

Almost 24 hours later, police hadn't released the child's medical condition or gender.

CTV News Thursday reported sources said police had located the infant's mother, but that couldn't be immediately confirmed.
