ARAWA, Papua New Guinea, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Monday in the New Ireland Region of Paupua New Guinea, seismologists said.
The epicenter of the 31-mile-deep earthquake was about 137 miles west-northwest of Arawa on the southeast coast of Bougainville Island in Paupua New Guinea, and 508 miles west-northwest of Honiara in the Solomon Islands.

The reading on the earthquake's magnitude came from the U.S. Geological Survey.
There were no initial reports of damages. A tsunami warning was not posted.
